Coombe Martin Wildlife Park

Coombe Martin Wildlife Park

We recently spent a short holiday in Coombe Martin North Devon.   Not far from where we were staying was this Wilde Life Park.

It was opened in 1986 after being uninhabited and over grown for 10 years,   The House, Higher Leigh Manor was at one time owned by an order of Nuns, and during the last war was home to evacuee children from London. It is reputed to have a number of ghosts, whose presence has been felt by many over the years

The Butterfly house was fascinating, to be able to see these beautiful creatures up close and get some photos, the keepers opened the hatching chamber for us and we witnessed a new butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.

We moved on to the Falconry display, and watched an array of birds flying, including Barn Owls and Harris Hawks, I ended up with a Kookaburra sitting on my head, a photo of which will follow!

This is the Harris Hawk

And this is a Tawny Eagle, See the album for lots more photos.

I do hope you have enjoyed my little tour around this park, I have more tales from the places we visited in Devon but this was one one of the best days out, more soon

Hi there:  Thanks for leaving me an instant message.  I’ve had so many people message and email me today, telling me that they can’t get into my space.  I can’t even get into my own space right now.  Don’t know why.  I did a virus scan and everything is okay…so it’s not being caused by a virus.  It’s been like that for two days now…..very frustrating.
    Hugs….Diane.

Hi Susan, how sorry I am that I did´nt see your site
before… other wise it would of been nice to meet you
and show you the Island, yes I did see your pics and of course
    I know the places…
When I saw the Orchids I found them very familiar….but, didnt think
they were from Madeira, what a small world.
Well maybe there will be a next time, i see you also love flowrers
so you should come during the flower Festival its a paradise!
I have pics only of the flowers from this years show… have a look.
The others are the normal every day flowers. I will be adding a list
of endemic flowers when I have a chance. By the way did you do
any walking on the Island or just by car?
    Take care
    Lobélia
