Pecans from Hurricane Lane

This blog is long over due sometime ago Sheila from Hurricane Lane sent me some beautiful pecan nuts from the tree in her front garden, the only took about 5 days to get to me and they were so fresh and delicious!Cooking 029

Here they are all ready to be made into banana bread as per her recipe published on her space

Cooking 030

Here we begin the mixing, lots of wonderful ingredients go into this!

All mixed but yo! is the bowl big enough?

And this was the result, delicious no wonder I am putting on weight, thank you SHEILA XXX.

Now for an English recipe using pecans, well the original version had walnuts but pecan would be great in this.

Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother’s Favorite Recipe

Pour one breakfast cup of boiling water over 8 oz. chopped dates and add one teaspoon bicarbonate of soda.   Let stand whilst the following is mixed.

3 ozs butter, 8 ozs sugar, 1 beaten egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

10 ozs plain flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt

2 oz chopped pecans.

Add all the above to the date mixture and bake 35 mins at 160 deg centigrade. (moderate oven) pan should be 9" x 12" and greased.

Topping 5 table spoons soft brown sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons cream.

Mix these ingredients together and boil 3 min then beat till fudgy at the edges.   Spread on the cake when cool and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

HOPE YOU ENJOY

This was given to me in about 1970 by my friend who lives on Jersey, and at the time it was to raise money for charity, we were asked to give 1/- (one shilling) to a deserving cause.

Since then there have been reports that the Queen Mum denied any association with the cake, and recently all the cheffy chefs, have re-invented it and call it sticky toffee pudding.  no matter what you call it or who invented it it is delicious and very slimming (NOT)

HOPE YOU ENJOY

Oh Suki!Boy what I wouldn’t give for a piece of your bread right now with my morning coffee!  I don’t think my bread has ever looked this good, what a lovely color and I am glad that recipe worked out so well for you! I loved seeing the pictures (hard to believe I had to fight the squirrels for the same pecans pictured here). Any year I have a harvest, expect pecans from me! Thank you for sharing this, I will try out the recipe above and I hope I do as well with your recipe!love and hugs,Sheila

Suki!!!!!!!! that is exactly what I want!!!!!!!!Physical activity comes in many shapes and forms, and for me it simple means moving (doesn’t have to be at the speed of light).  I want to know what everyone does to stay fit, healthy and happy, so….I will be looking for that yoga picture in the guest book.  Just come by now and then to see how others are doing, no pressure, and I know you don’t need motivation, but for me it does help to motivate me, to see what is out there.  Have a great weekend, Dahling!Love & hugs,Sheila

    Hey Suki!!

Yea, don’t know what the problem was think that I may of entered an incorrect number and got that time.  However I am pleased to tell you that I have had the guys in the white coats running around checking,  double checking, re-checking, that the sun does rise in Manchester at that time on that date.  So again thanks for pointing me towards that error….  lol knowing my luck if it would of stayed  unnoticed come 07 April 2007 I’d be getting hate mail from photographers cause they missed that Sun Rise in Manc by many hours 🙂

  13. Gareth says:
