Finca el Cerrillo

FINCA el CERRILLO

We have just spent a delightful week’s holiday at Finca el Cerrillo, a 200 year-old farm house situated in the foot hills of the Sierra Almijara region of southern Spain

The finca is owned by Gordon and Sue, who have spent 8 years restoring it and making it into a work of art in its own right

Gordon in another life was a theatrical set designer, and every step and turn was a well planned and beautiful experience

We were invited to join a group of 24 artists and partners who were all members of a local painting group, non-painters like me were kept busy lazing round the pool or going on walks in the beautiful mountains.   The Oleanders were in full bloom

We had a visit to Malaga where we visited the Picasso Museum and the Castillo De Gibralfaro, a beautiful fortress perched high above the port with fantastic views all round.

We also went up into the mountains to feast on paella.

And to the market in Frigiliana

I hope you have enjoyed our little visit to Spain on a holiday which was a little off the tourist track!   Certainly Peter has a lot of beautiful paintings and when we go next year I will join the Art class!

What a stunning holiday.  The pictures are out of this world, and the paella looks too good to be true.
I just love blogs like this Suki X, I am most "envious".  LOL.
Thank you for the e-mail, I have visited some sites of Aston Hall, much work being done there, and visited the BBC, page w/the collection of memories of WWII.  So much history, grateful it has been gathered in writing.
Apparently some bloggers have the "knack", and you, indeed do.  Much enjoyed.

Hi Suki, I have seen buildings like this in Morroco, but nothing like as perfect. The ones I saw were the inner courtyard of the local houses, but they had running water, as well as goats, dogs and chickens running around, the smell was usually disgusting. It i so nice to see one that is treated how it should be, clean and fresh and a place to relax. I am glad you mentioned that the owner is a set designer, as would have described it as looking like the set for a film about North Africa. But all the same it is beautiful and well photographed. Getting the exposure right for the bright colours and strong sunlight is not easy.  Well done.

    Hello Suki.
Very nice indeedy, looks a very nice place you stayed at, although pink is not one of my favourite colours, and I do not like bull rings.
pleased you had a good time of it, i want to come with you next year.
perhaps Terry and I can sail down there and bring back a boat load of spanish fish.

  13. Deborah says:

I had an email from Pueblo Anglaise last week and I am hoping they will be able to work Dena and I into a week this fall.  If not we can go in the Spring.  What was the weather like?  I had a chance to go in August and vetoed that idea.  Why leave Seattle for the best weather of the year.  I am still hoping that when I go to Spain I will be able to fly up to London for a short trip as well.
    blessed be,

  14. Sheila says:

Suki dear,OMG, I can see that camera has become a trusted friend and you’ve got it doing just what you want!!! Your pictures are gorgeous, but it sounds like you had a tough time as a non painter…so sorry you had to laze about the pool (giggle).  I have thoroughly enjoyed my trip to spain with you this early Saturday morning-oh what a clever way to make use of a holiday (your Grandson’s B’day).  I bet he was just pleased as all get out!love and hugs,Sheila

  15. Longfella says:

Who’s a lucky girl then–a bit drier than home sweet home as been this last three weeks. You picked the right time to go. Thanks for the pictures, excellent, but I bet their allotments aren.t as tidy as the Essex ones.
    Big hug,Longfella xx

  16. Kenneth says:

    Hi Suki.
Something told me you would be attracted by the girl in the water, skinny dipping.
I love water, to sit  on a grass bank just watching the river flow with rod in hand, sun beating down, that’s for me.
Talking about the sun, it seems you have left it in Spain, where is it ?

Have a great week Suki.     love Kenny  x

  17. Magick says:

    Hi Suki:
The pictures are just beautiful.  What a gorgeous place.  I especially love the pink courtyard…it looks so peaceful and serene.  I bet a week wasn’t nearly long enough for you!!
    Hugs…Diane.

  18. Embrace says:

    Dear Sukie ,
I love your holiday album and the 200 year old farm house is stunning. A nice way to spend a holiday.
A lot of work had to have gone into it as the stucture itself has to be stone or brick., and a nice place to photograph. Hope all is well and your out taking alot of photos.
    Hugs
    Lisa

  19. swamp says:

Morning Suki. That is some farmhouse, amazing. Just made for photo’s. I hope lazing by the pool wasn’t too stressful. 🙂
Camera I’m using is a Canon Ixus 900Ti (Sounds like a sports car  lol) Got loads of effects built into it, but gradually getting the hang of it. Hopefully put it through its paces again this weekend.
Enjoy the rest of the day   🙂
